چکیده

A dislocation1012 twin boundary (TB) interaction model was proposed and introduced into discrete dislocation dynamics simulations to study the mechanical behavior of micro-twinned Mg. Strong strain hardening was captured by current simulations, which is associated with the strong TB’s barrier effect. In addition, twin size effects with small TB spacing leading to a strong yield stress, were observed to be orientation dependent. Basal slip orientation produces a strong size effect, while prismatic slip does a weak one.

Twin-size effects on the deformation of nanotwinned copper

The strength and ductility of nanolayered materials are determined by a delicate balance between dislocation and interface motion under applied mechanical loading. We present here studies of dislocation and interface motion in single crystal and nanotwinned copper, utilizing molecular dynamics simulations. Motion of twin boundary interfaces themselves is dictated by the stress state at the inte...

Multi-Objective Optimization of a Wrought Magnesium Alloy for High Strength and Ductility

An optimization technique is coupled with crystal plasticity based finite element (CPFE) computations to aid the microstructural design of a wrought magnesium alloy for improved strength and ductility. The initial microstructure consists of a collection of sub-micron sized grains containing deformation twins. The variables used in the simulations are crystallographic texture, and twin spacing w...

The interaction mechanisms of a screw dislocation with a defective coherent twin boundary in copper

∑ 3{111} coherent twin boundary (CTB) in face-centered-cubic (FCC) metals and alloys have been regarded as an efficient way to simultaneously increase strength and ductility at the nanoscale. Extensive study of dislocation-CTB interaction has been carried out by a combination of computer simulations, experiments and continuum theory. Most of them, however, are based on the perfect CTB assumptio...

Multiscale modeling of dislocation-precipitate interactions in Fe: From molecular dynamics to discrete dislocations.

The stress-driven motion of dislocations in crystalline solids, and thus the ensuing plastic deformation process, is greatly influenced by the presence or absence of various pointlike defects such as precipitates or solute atoms. These defects act as obstacles for dislocation motion and hence affect the mechanical properties of the material. Here we combine molecular dynamics studies with three...

Multiphase flow and tromp curve simulation of dense medium cyclones using Computational Fluid Dynamics

Dense Medium Cyclone is a high capacity device that is widely used in coal preparation. It is simple in design but the swirling turbulent flow, the presence of medium and coal with different density and size fraction and the presence of the air-core make the flow pattern in DMCs complex. In this article the flow pattern simulation of DMC is performed with computational fluid dynamics and Fluent...
